Munich Monday: The Residenz
While in Munich a few weeks ago, I revisited an old favorite. It was nice to play tourist in my old city home. The Residenz was home to the Bavarian Monarchs from the 14th century onward. It is a complex of audience chambers, courtyards and assembly halls in varying decorative styles. The palace suffered severe damage during WW2, but today has been faithfully restored.
Take a visual walk with me through time into grand dining halls, splendid bedrooms, mirrored hallways and private gilded chapels.
Oh wow!! That is a stunning piece of design!
ReplyDeleteUtterly amazing
ReplyDeleteA good example why I am so enamored by Europe and its many jewels of castles and churches.
ReplyDeleteThis is a prosperous renaissance/rococo style one! Love these kind of ceilings. Hubby has been several times to Munich, for work, not for play (before we were married).
ReplyDeleteBrooke you are missed at SEASONS:) Just to remind you: the link is open from Sunday to Wednesday 7pm US Pacific time. So, there's still time to link up this week in the post SEASONS Local Jocals - Hope to see you there!
So elegant. I love being a tourist in my city as well. You find the most amazing things.
ReplyDeleteThe art! Your eyes couldn't take it all in during one visit! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow! Or should I say Wow!
ReplyDeleteThose arras (tapestries) are just stunning! Everything is so incredible, we have nothing to compare with it here in Australia, all of our splendour is in nature.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a gorgeous place. Lovely images. Thanks for sharing your visit. Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteWow - very ornate and lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh boy! It's all so grand and rich and beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThat residence is so AMAZING. Your photos are perfect, but I know from visiting they really do nto capture the crazy amazing intricate parts of the home. I was so overwhelmed there. And, I did not capture it nearly as well as you did.
