Small Bavarian Towns and A Few Thoughts
My eldest daughter finished her first year at BYU at the end of April; it was learning experience. Learning to live away from mom and dad. Learning to share a room. Learning to get along with a roommate. Learning to exist in the United States once again. Learning to live in an intensely religious environment.
To kick off her summer, she decided to spend one month in Munich taking an intensive language course and I decided to join her for two weeks.
Today I go home. I woke up two and half hours before my alarm clock went off. I am anxious. It is time to go home--I do, after all, have other family members. But, I am anxious to say goodbye once again to my daughter, perhaps because I know she's anxious to say goodbye to me as well.
We've had a great time these last two weeks traveling around, trying new restaurants, huddling around the computer watching tv and just being together! Being in Germany has been such a breath of fresh air. May is a beautiful time to be here if you can put up with a little rain. The flowers are in full bloom, the trees are heavy with leaves, the birds are sounding off and the church bells are music to my ears.
And then there is the architecture, history and culture, I just can't get enough! Honestly, just look at these buildings all photographed in Mittenwald. Every town/village in southern Bavaria is similar. The buildings are decorated with fairy tales, religious tales or idyllic scenes of community life. It is all so charming! 
But alas, it is time to go. I hate to say goodbye even if it's only until this summer. Why do children have to grow up?
No matter how many years go by, to say goodbye to my mom, dad or sister is the hardest thing I have to do. The important is to spend good moments together as you did :)
ReplyDeleteYes childen will grow up but what if they wouldn't. You always would have little children arround you and a lot of work with them - while you will getting older and older. Its better in the way it is ... Thank you for the bavarian photographs today. Marion

ReplyDeleteBavaria is my favorite place in the whole wide world. We went every year we were in Europe becasue it pulled us back every year. We would live there if we could. Fabulous photos Brooke, I miss my favorite place.

PS I am glad you had your time with your daughter. Letting them grow up and fly is so very hard.
What are the names of the towns you visited? I like when the houses are painted with different motifs. I saw some in Lucerne, Switzerland.
ReplyDeleteThe town in these photos is Mittenwald. But all the towns in southern Bavaria are similar. Garmisch, Lindau, Oberammagau, just to name a few.
DeleteSo great you could be with your daughter for 2 weeks! I don't envy her - it's really an adjustment to be back in the USA - you think different, and behave different -kudos to her! Do I understand it correctly, did she take a language course in German? (In high school I failed twice, because of German)

Thanks for the reminder to link up and yes, my daughter studied German in high school, took it both semesters this first year of college and is now taking a one month intensive course in Munich. Honestly, it wasn't until after we left Germany that she thought it would be a good idea to actually study hard to learn the language. I am just glad she finally enjoys it!
DeleteI've read and heard of Bavaria, but i didn't know it is in Germany, lol. Maybe it is not soaring up many times even in blogs, thought it is in Eastern Europe. Am glad you can have at least sometime with your daughter, i know how it is even if i don't have one.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter lived in schwienfurt with her family. I loved visiting all of the beautiful areas. I too stopped and took in the beautiful church bells. Would wake up listening to them and wished I could hear them here where I live. like living in a fairy tale some of these places. So good your daughter grew up happy, healthy and enjoying her time together with her family. I want to go back now. Wonderful post and so enjoyed seeing pictures and reading your thoughts.
