Plitvice Lakes
Plitvice is one of Europe's most spectacular natural wonders. Lush valleys and terraced lakes are laced together with waterfalls and walking paths. It is a fantastically beautiful land and it only took us 3 attempts to get there. Our first attempt was thwarted when our packed car blew an important engine part stranding us one mile into our journey. On our second attempt we were turned back at the border because I had forgotten my passport--you can imagine my dismay and Bob's frustration! So, with only one month to go before leaving Germany, we made the trip to the Plitvice Lakes our last European family vacation.
2 hours from Zagreb, Plitvice is best reached by a car. If you are wanting to hit the trails early (and I suggest you do) it is advisable to stay the night nearby. There are 3 different trails offering 2, 4 or 6 hour hikes. We spent the entire day in the park and loved every water fall minute of it.

ReplyDeleteThe best place on Earth (maybe I'm bias as it used to be my home, lol) Where in Germany did you live? I spent 6 years in Nordrhein-Westfalen area.
ReplyDeleteHi Jas, you can be biased, it really was one of the most beautiful days we've ever spent hiking. Never made it to Nordhein area, but there is a lot we didn't get to. We spent our time mostly in Bavaria and trekking around the rest of EU. We were in Munich for 5 years.
DeleteAmazing place. I must go out there next summer. My friend visited recently.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking in with "Through My Lens"

Wow this is spectacular. Can you stay overnight here? Are there cabins inside the park for rent?
ReplyDeleteYou can stay in a hotel just inside the park or like us, you can stay at one of the many house/apartments in the area. We stayed with family (them in basement and us in upstairs rental). Very, very friendly, the daughter spoke great English and they were very accommodating.
