Caramel Apple Cupcakes

Last month I did a 30 day treat fast--I am addicted to sugary things, not so much candy bars, but more like baked goods.  Chocolate chip cookies, brownies, chocolate cake...I'm a lover of treats and I want them daily.  I wanted to sort of reset my bodily cravings and I have to say it was really hard at the beginning and it wasn't until the 3rd week that I finally wasn't thinking about eating a treat after every meal.

Taking a 30 day break was good for me to see just how often I was eating sugar, but the point of this post is to share with you the treat I broke my fast with.  You can find the recipe here.  We've enjoyed a good harvest of apples from our small tree this year and this recipe was a good way to use up some of those apples.  I made a cream cheese topping instead of the caramel one listed in the recipe and boy was it tasty.  The consistency of the apple cupcake is more dense than you'd expect, it's more similar to carrot cake.

Give these a try, they were a delicious way to break my treat fast.

  1. Yummy! I am just about to do a no sugar ban as I am the same as you love bake goods. Guess this will have to wait until December.

    1. Good luck, Kelleyn! It wasn't easy, but I am so much more conscious of my habits now.
