Viehscheid: A Truly Bavarian Experience
Some of you might recognize this photo from last year. We were hiking in the mountains near Garmisch when the road was over taken by herds of cattle. The tradition is called Viehscheid and happens every fall when the cows are moved from their summer pastures in the mountains down to the valley. The celebration includes cows decorated with beautiful head dresses, loud bells and a parade through town. It's quaint, unique to southern Bavaria and the Tirol, and worth the effort to find one. And good news...it happens all month long. Check out this link to find the dates and times of theViehscheid happening closest to you.
What a fun tradition! Love your picture!!
