It has taken me 2.5 years to get down to this museum, but finally, last Tuesday I did.  The beautiful building itself made me curious to find out what was inside. Completed in 1900 it was to house the extensive art collection once owned by the Wittelsbach family.  The museum is devoted to the fine arts and cultural history of the region, hence the name, The Bavarian National Museum or Bayerisches Nationalmuseum.




This wooden sculpture of Mary Magdalen is something I've never seen before--she is covered in hair and surrounded by angles.  After some research I discovered this represents Medieval church teaching that the prostitute who washed Christ's feel with her hair, miraculously grew body hair to cover her nakedness or sin. As continued penance she lived for 30 years alone in a cave surrounded by angels.
