Palace Plawniowice
We found this little gem by chance. We were almost to Auschwitz when I saw a sign for a palace just 4km off off the autobahn and Bob was good to entertain my desire to explore.
I can't tell you much about this castle other than it was the private estate of the Ballestrem family built in 1882. By 1945, in the face of the advancing Russian army, the owner fled to Dresden. Unfortunately, he was killed there during the heavy allied bombing and all Ballestrem property was taken by the state and the palace fell into disrepair. In 1993 the castle was renovated and now open for tours. Unfortunately for us, it was a holiday and it was closed, so we enjoyed the lovely park like surroundings instead.
Just gorgeous!
