Milan Recommendations
In my last post I shared some lessons we learned the hard way, but I didn't want to end my Milan series on a bad note, so here a few things I can recommend.
1. Starhotels Business Palace Via Pietro Gaggia 3, Milan
We were really happy with our hotel. We booked a family suite which gave us plenty of space. The hotel offered a buffet breakfast each morning, free wi-fi in the common areas, and an exercise room. You can pay for parking underground, but we parked for free on the street. It was not in the center of Milan, but it was only a 10 minute train ride to the Duomo and the metro station was just around the corner from the hotel. Our room on the 10th floor gave us a view of downtown.
2. La Plancia Pizza Restaurant Via G.B. Cassinis, 13 Milan
This restaurant was near our hotel, so we ended up here twice. We tried the antipasti, pizza, pasta, meat and calzones, but our favorite was the crisp bread they served beforehand, it was really good seasoned with rosemary and thyme. The service was very good, but beware, as is the custom in Italy, they have a 2e per person cover charge. If there is a cover charge, you are not expected to leave an additional tip. You can, but it's not obligatory.

I say this a lot, but this was a tasty treat. We found this place by accident when we were looking for the Santa Maria della Grazie church and as we passed it twice and we hadn't had dinner yet, we decided to have dessert first. I had the dark chocolate and white chocolate and let me just say, I've not had richer dark chocolate before and it was smooth as butter. The girls opted for vanilla and milk chocolate and I am almost tempted to say I preferred the milk over the dark...but it was all good! Seek this place out if ever in Milan!
4. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Named after the first king of a United Italy, it is Italy's oldest shopping mall. Quite honestly, it is all just a bit of eye candy, from the shops to the architecture. The soaring ceilings, the mosaics and ornate facades all harken back to a more gentile age and I love it! The stores are high end, you know the kind that have security as door greeters, so we just walked through the hallways peering in through the windows. The nice thing about the Galleria is that it is always open and it is covered making it a good place to seek refuge when its raining out.
